We’re hiring students to become SU Crew on our London Campus!
SU Crew are current students who work part-time for the Students’ Union, being a part of creating memorable student experiences and vibrancy on campus.
We’ve chatted to a current member of our SU Crew, Mostafa Doklaija, so you can hear what it’s like directly from a student!
I’ve always been drawn to roles that involve interacting with people and making a positive difference, especially in the university setting. When I heard about the SU Crew, I saw it as a fantastic chance to contribute to something meaningful while gaining valuable experience. Working with the Students’ Union - a respected organisation that supports students and enhances their university experience - was especially appealing. I was also excited about the idea of being a friendly face for new and current students, making them feel welcome and supported during their time at the University.
I found out about the opportunity through the Students' Union's social media, where they had posted information about the role. As soon as I read the description, I felt it matched my skills and interests perfectly. It stood out to me because it combined the chance to work with students, contribute to events, and develop new skills, all while being part of the university community.
Being part of the SU Crew has been an incredible learning experience. I’ve gained practical skills like time management, event planning, and administrative organisation, as well as soft skills like teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication. These skills have not only helped me in my current role but are also transferable to my future career. Additionally, working closely with diverse groups of people has taught me the importance of empathy, cultural awareness, and collaboration - qualities that will be invaluable in any professional environment.
Absolutely! One of the things I love most about SU Crew is how flexible the role is. The Students’ Union understands the demands of being a student, so they make sure that the responsibilities fit around your academic schedule. I’ve been able to manage my coursework and SU Crew commitments without feeling overwhelmed. It’s an ideal part-time role for anyone who wants to gain work experience while staying focused on their studies.
SU Crew applications are currently open on our London Campus ONLY, and as such, only University of Sunderland in London students are eligible to apply. We will be recruiting for SU Crew members in Sunderland later in the year, so make sure you keep an eye out for info about that!
