We are shocked and saddened by the terrible violence that took place in Sunderland on Friday evening. The events do not reflect the city that we know and love, or its people.
In contrast to the appalling violence, it has been incredibly heartening to see the community feeling and response shown in the clean-up operation and beyond. This is the Sunderland that we know and love. We are proud of the coming together of the local community, our students, and others during this time of shock.
We know that many of our students may have been affected by what took place yesterday. We are here to help, so please reach out to us from Monday if you are in need of support, either online, by phone, or by coming to see us in person.
We would also like to remind you about the University’s Wellbeing service that can offer you support Monday-Friday too. Additionally, they operate an Out of Hour Support service 6:30pm-6:30am, seven days a week, which you can contact by calling 0191 515 2451. Find out about these services here: https://sj.sunderland.ac.uk/wellbeing/
You can also find out about a range of further support options, from Sunderland Students’ Union, the University and external services here: https://www.sunderlandsu.co.uk/support/general-support
