December was a wonderfully festive month, and it's time to relive some fantastic moments as 2023 came to an end! Here's a recap of the great events we had in London last month:
President: London Oluwatosin Solarin
Our rendition of the "12 Days of Christmas" was a blast, from cosy card-making sessions to artistic Belgian waffle painting. We hosted a counting jar challenge and a sweater showdown, where estimation skills and creative knits were put to the test, bringing a whole lot of holiday cheer in the process. There was also a scavenger hunt that brought everyone together in the spirit of fun and camaraderie with its deciphering of clues and looking around campus.
Our Holly Jolly Members Mingle, our Christmas party combined with the Nigerian Society’s first Christmas party, was great fun! There was even a surprise visit from Santa himself! As well as the festivities, this also doubled up as Your SU’s Members’ Meeting. This provided students with the opportunity to look back at 2023 and vote on important SU policies for the year ahead.
I also hope you all enjoyed the Christmas tunes from the 3rd floor (curated by yours truly 😊)
As we say goodbye to December, let's carry the warmth of these festive memories into the new year.
In my monthly updates going forwards, we’re also going to be highlighting the incredible work of our volunteers with ‘Student Spotlight’.
And the Student Spotlights for December goes to *drumroll*:
Course Rep of the Month: Samson Gbemiga Ogunwoye
Samson has made a commendable contribution to the Course Rep role at Sunderland Students' Union in London. Since the start of the MSc International Business Management (October 2023) academic journey this year, Samson has demonstrated a keen interest in actively engaging and supporting the Student Voice across the University. Notably in December, Samson hosted a highly successful end of term event, bringing together students from the cohort of MSc International Business Management to commemorate the beginning of their academic journey at UoSiL. Samson's dedication to fostering a sense of student community is evident both in the commitment to the Course Rep role and across Your SU. Congratulations Samson!
Society Committee Member of the Month: Ayomide Nofisat Jimoh
Mide has consistently demonstrated outstanding student leadership since taking over the Nigerian Society earlier this year. Mhidey ensures that the Society has opportunities on campus regularly. Members of the Nigerian Society frequently praise Mhidey for continuing to install the student community in the Society to support their journey at the University of Sunderland in London (UoSiL). Mide's contribution to Societies and Your SU is evident from the fantastic enthusiasm displayed at Committee Training and Welcome Fair. This enthusiasm continues to shine through Mide's passion for the society. Notable events hosted by Mhidey include the successful Nigerian Independence Day celebration, which saw a brilliant turn out of students and staff at UoSiL. Additionally, the Nigerian Society also supported Your SU by hosting a Societies Space at the Holly Jolly Members Mingle. Mide consistently strives to plan new events for the Nigerian Society at Your SU and we eagerly anticipate seeing what is next for the society! Congratulations Mide!
It’s really been a December to remember. Stay tuned for events, Elections and more in January!
