Dear Sir David Bell,

RE: Free Period Products on Campus

First and foremost, I would like to express our gratitude for the University's support thus far in recognising the significance of this matter. The initiative undertaken by Your SU to provide free period products has been pivotal in ensuring that students and staff have access to these essential items with the dignity they deserve. However, there are challenges that we face in improving and maintaining this service.

One significant challenge is the current distribution and stocking system. Due to limitations in staff resources and capacity, the availability of period products has been sporadic and inconsistent. This has resulted in students often having to interact with staff to access these products, which compromises their privacy and dignity. It is imperative that we address this issue to ensure a more discreet and dignified experience for all members of our campus community.

This is why we have requested that the University provide its backing and resources in supporting our mission to ensure that our members are able to have free and accessible period products, readily available whenever required. We recognise and commend the positive impact London Campus students have with the University-supported free period products within university toilets and urge this planned implementation to continue as anticipated and campaigned from by Your SU at Sunderland Campus.

Currently, the University has been supportive, and we thank them for their backing of the campaign. Within this, the University has acquired vending machines and stocked period products to ensure that stock can be monitored, supplied more effectively, and made more readily available in university toilets, and has been in the process of scheduling the implementation ahead of the academic calendar year 2024/25.
