Sunderland International Students! First and foremost, congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Sunderland! We are delighted to welcome you! Sunderland is a pleasant, exciting, open, and challenging place with a beautiful varied population of kind people!

My name is Oyin, and I am your Students' Union International Officer for the academic year 2023-2024. I am Nigerian. I'm here to help you integrate into the country, the University, and our community, as well as to help our University's international spirit.

The major method of connection/communication between people, societies, clubs, and University organisations at Your SU is via our social media networks and our website. Your SU also has an Buddy system where you can be partnered with a more experienced student from the same country to help you with the transition and perhaps provide you with more personalised help/advice (disclaimer: there is no certainty that someone from your country will be available, but we will try our best!).

An overseas student's experience may be extremely unique and different from that of a home student. The International Officer's goal is to make you feel at home in this new environment, but beyond what my job description says, I've relocated to a foreign country a couple of times. Adjusting to a new place and the obstacles that come with it are all too familiar to me, which is why I want to make sure that all of you have the greatest experience possible at the University of Sunderland and in the UK.
