With the situation in Palestine worsening every day, this is proving to be a very difficult time for students and staff on campus. Currently, the SU does not have a stance on Palestine and the events occurring within Gaza. Many Palestinian students and staff are greatly affected by this and need the university to speak out about this issue. Sunderland university proudly stands and is known for diversity and inclusion which is another reason for the importance of issuing a stance.

Furthermore, we require more support when wanting to hold events to raise awareness about the current situation. It is a very critical and emotional time not only for Muslim students and staff but everyone, and the university needs to acknowledge their needs. The peaceful demonstration the ISOC carried out was a step in the right direction, but we need more. Not only events but we would like the Union to create resources and further support any student activity relating to raising awareness of the situation.

Inviting Rishi Sunak who is complicit in supporting a genocide in Gaza, is outrageous by Sunderland university. Shame on all those who allowed a man who shakes hand with Netanyahu.
