India Independence Day is celebrated every year on August 15th to commemorate the country’s freedom from British colonial rule in 1947. It is a national holiday that honors the struggles and sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters in the movement for independence. People across India celebrate the day with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, cultural performances, and patriotic songs. The Prime Minister delivers a speech from the Red Fort in Delhi, which is broadcast nationwide. Homes, schools, and public buildings are decorated with the Indian tricolor, and many people take part in community events, kite flying, and other celebrations to show their national pride.
