We are delighted to share that Sunderland Students’ Union has achieved accreditation from the National Union of Students (NUS) as a Quality Students’ Union, with an average rating of ‘Very Good’ across multiple categories.
Quality Students’ Unions sets out a framework for Students’ Unions to achieve and highlight areas for development, while also ensuring that they are meeting organisational compliance. It is set out in two parts. Part A ensures that the organisation is meeting the level of good basic organisational health and then Part B dives deeper into all the different working aspects of the Students’ Union. The areas that the framework looks into are Communication, Democracy, Governance, Insight and Learning, LEDI, Participation, People, Representation and Campaigning, Services, Strategy and Sustainability.
Part B involved submitting a report with evidence and data drawn from multiple areas and departments of the organisation.
In January 2024, we welcomed two verifiers to our campus, Oli Gray (Director of Enterprise at Cambridge Students’ Union) and Lisa Burton (Former Chief Executive at Leeds Trinity Students’ Union), who spent the day meeting with a variety of stakeholders from members of the student body, through to University staff and External Trustees, to delve deeper into the evidence that was supplied in order to compile their report and findings. We were very grateful for their time, and very much enjoyed having them with us for the day.
