Welcome Back From President: Wellbeing

By President: Wellbeing - Oladimeji Adepoju (Prince)

As we eagerly anticipate the start of another exciting academic year, I want to extend a warm welcome to both our new and returning students. Your presence enriches our campus community, and we are thrilled to embark on this journey of growth, learning, and personal development together.

In the pursuit of excellence, it's vital that we prioritise not only our academic pursuits but also our mental health and wellbeing. As the Your Students’ Union President: Wellbeing, I'm committed to ensuring that each of you thrives academically, emotionally, and socially during your time here. With this in mind, I'd like to share some invaluable tips to support your wellbeing as you navigate the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead.

Try to establish a solid foundation by creating a daily routine that encompasses healthy habits, from getting enough sleep to enjoying nourishing meals and fitting in regular exercise. Health is wealthy.

Stay connected, reconnect through forging new friendships (you might like to sign up for an SU Buddy) and strengthen existing ones. Our campus thrives on the bonds we build with one another and this forms a large community through some of our key activities and events.

Seek help when needed - remember that seeking help is a sign of strength. If you find yourself facing challenges, reach out to our dedicated Support systems (Students’ Union, Gateway, Wellbeing, International Student Support etc.) counselling services or professionals who are here to support you.

I will also encourage you that balance is key - try to maintain equilibrium between your academic endeavours and your personal life. A balanced life fosters success and fulfilment.

Celebrate imperfections - embrace your imperfections as part of your unique journey. Learning from mistakes is a profound source of growth. The support services are available for you.

Just as we treasure physical health, prioritise your mental wellbeing, value your mental health. Let's break the stigma surrounding mental health and seek help when needed.

Your time here isn't just about academic achievements, you can shape your legacy as well. It's also about the impact you make on our community and the world around you.

As we embark on this academic year, let's commit to creating an environment where each student's wellbeing is valued and supported. The challenges and triumphs you encounter are all part of your growth story. Remember, you are not alone – we're a united community, here to uplift, inspire, and propel each other to greatness.

Here's to a year filled with discovery, growth, and wellbeing.
