Hi everyone,
As the days grew colder and November unfolded, I found myself involved in a couple of activities aimed at shaping a better student experience and fostering meaningful collaborations. Here's a recap of my November highlights:
President: Wellbeing Babatunde Jimoh
The month began with a pivotal Members Meeting where we focused on the Students' Union's Democracy and Governance Review. Discussions centered on transitioning from four presidents to two—one for Sunderland and one for London—supported by four part-time paid officers, and a number of other key changes that will impact how the SU engages with you, our students. The proposed structure and changes aim to enhance representation and efficiency in serving our diverse student body. The changes were voted through by students who attended Members Meeting, and the SU will now work to implement these.
Elsewhere, I met a member of the University’s Academic Registry team to plan a blood donation drive in Sunderland, spearheaded by the Race, Ethnicity, and Cultural Heritage (REACH) staff network. The initiative seeks to reduce barriers for ethnic minorities to donate blood. We plan to secure CitySpace as the venue, with the event slated for mid to late March.
