Hi everyone,
January was a busy and productive month filled with student engagement, campaign progress, and key meetings to improve student wellbeing.
President: Wellbeing Babatunde Jimoh
After December break, I started the new year by meeting with International Student Support Welfare to discuss accommodation concerns for new international students, especially the limited hostel slots. We explored alternative housing options to ensure students had access to proper accommodation. At the start of January, I joined the Graduation Team to discuss student conduct during ceremonies. I proposed an audio name recording system to be made available online for students while registering for graduation to help VIP guests correctly pronounce student names. The meeting also addressed student feedback from past graduations, emphasising the need for students to be responsible for themselves and their guests.
Wellbeing and cultural activities were also a key focus this month. I attended the University Mental Health and Wellbeing Group to discuss my student campaign as President: Wellbeing. Alongside Prince (President: Activities) and the SU staff team, I was also involved in helping to organise February’s Lunar New Year Celebration, which was planned and hosted by our Chinese, Malaysian, Indonesian and Myanmar Societies. The event was a great success and it was fantastic to see so many students there enjoying themselves. We are also in the process of planning wellbeing activities to mark University Mental Health Awareness Day on Thursday 13th March, with this year’s theme of "Moving More for Our Mental Health". Activities will take place throughout that week.
There was significant progress on my Sport Festival Campaign, which is nearly finalised. The main event will be held at Beacon of Light and will take place in late March, with the date soon to be confirmed. There will also be additional wellbeing activities in CitySpace. My “Someone to Talk To” campaign, aimed at improving student wellbeing, will soon launch a survey to gather student feedback and help shape better student wellbeing support.
