Welcome to my November blog, where I'll be sharing some updates about my campaigns and some other exciting things that happened last month.

Campaign Updates

As shared in the last blog, I have three main priorities this year which I shall be giving updates about.

Student Consultation Framework - This is to advocate the introduction of a student consultation framework in the University to ensure student input is obtained in decision making. This has been shared with university management and it received a favourable response. We are now in the process of consulting with students and staff to determine what this should look like. Updates will be shared in the next blog.

Module Evaluation Survey - The aim of this campaign is to encourage consistency in use of this feedback mechanism across schools and faculties. Discussions are currently ongoing and a survey has been published among student representatives to gather feedback on the issue.

PGT Employability - The goal here is to improve student outcomes of postgraduate-taught students and ensure they are suitably prepared for employment after graduation. Research is ongoing to gather stories from alumni and get examples of lived experience. The Centre for Graduate Prospects has been helpful in gathering data and collaboration is ongoing with them.

Times Higher Education Awards

This year’s edition of THE Awards took place in Birmingham on 28th November. It is an event to celebrate the achievements of individuals and institutions in the Higher Education sector.

The event was a night full of excitement and celebration, bringing together academics and university leaders from across the UK to recognise incredible achievements in education.

Our university was proud to be nominated in two categories: Business School of the Year and the highly prestigious University of the Year award. These nominations reflect the hard work and dedication of everyone in our community. Even though we did not win this time, it was an honour to be nominated among the top six universities in the UK considered for the position of University of the Year and a recognition of our efforts as a university.

SSAC/QAA Inductions

This month, I had the pleasure of attending the first in-person induction of the SSAC as a second-year member of the Student Strategic Advisory Committee of the QAA. The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) is an independent agency which works with Higher Education institutions and regulatory bodies to maintain and enhance quality standards and improve the quality of Higher Education in the UK. The agency works in close collaboration with students to ensure the student voice is represented in all processes, hence the establishment of committees like the Student Strategic Advisory Committee with all student members.

The first meeting of the committee was also held this month, and it was great to come together with students from all over to discuss current issues affecting the quality of education nationally and proffer solutions.

Graduations

Graduations also took place this month and it is always a delight to witness the celebration of the successful completion of studies. This is not an easy feat and definitely worth celebrating. Congratulations to all the graduates!
