Your Presidents 2023/24

President: Activities Prince Ikechi

President: Activities - Prince Ikechi

What I want to achieve: I hope to create a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging student experience through a wider variety of events and activities to ensure that every student has a memorable journey at the University of Sunderland.

Fun Fact: I am passionate about nature, meeting people from different cultural backgrounds, impacting meaningfully on people’s lives and have a strong drive for sustainable change.

President: Education - Dola Dada

What I want to achieve: By the end of my year in office I hope to have brought about great improvement in the academic experience of students by increasing awareness of available resources and improving the feedback system between students and faculties for better academic support. I also hope to develop strategies and carry out campaigns to significantly boost academic integrity among all categories of students at the University of Sunderland.

Fun Fact: I love being outdoors and I especially love walking, when I can use my headphones and enjoy music on the go. So, chances are if you’re walking down a road in Sunderland and you hear someone singing off-key behind you, that will be me!

What I want to achieve: I hope to introduce/promote a nutritious and diverse range of meals. I hope to create a campus environment that prioritises student wellbeing, fosters effective communication, enhances student life, provides academic and technological support, and advocates for the diverse interests and needs of the student body. Through these initiatives, I aspire to empower students to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially, creating a truly transformative experience for all.

Fun Fact: I love cooking; if I was not doctor, I probably would be a chef or own a restaurant but I definitely would hire someone to make deliveries because I can't ride a bike to save my life!

President: Wellbeing - Oladimeji Adepoju (Prince)

What I want to achieve: In this second term as President: Wellbeing, I will address crucial aspects in areas such as EDI, Disability, safety, student community and other related matters to improve the student experience. This will involve the continuation of campaigns on the Cost of living (Student Support Fund, Accommodation, Transportation and reduction of food prices on campus), Mental Health/Wellbeing visibility (Free Period Products, Wellbeing Champions), Inclusion and a sense of belonging (Interfaculty competition).

Fun Fact: I love to have fun as much as I can.

Equality and Diversity Officer Zeeshan Aman

Equality and Diversity Officer - Zeeshan Aman

What I want to achieve: I'll be focusing on increasing the representation of ethnic minorities in teaching and supporting staff. I'll also be working closely with cultural societies and LGBTQIA+ individuals to spread awareness to eliminate transphobia and gender discrimination. Also, I have keen interest in advocating to make our University more accessible and disability friendly.

Fun Fact: I can speak five South Asian languages.

International Officer - Oyin Arogundade

What I want to achieve: As an international student starting in a new environment, I understand we are faced with so many challenges and I hope to achieve the following in order to ease us into the system in a comfortable approach:

- Set up a mentoring system for international students on their queries, thereby creating an easier transition to university life during the orientation and throughout their studies in the University.

- Advocate for a flexible tuition fee instalment plan

- Create more opportunities for cultural exchange on campus through events and programmes which celebrate the diversity among the student body

International Officer Oyin Arogundade

London Campus Officer - Michael Okoh

What I want to achieve: As London Campus Officer, I'll boost SU visibility through inclusive events, expand support services for students' unique needs, and advocate for equal opportunities by actively seeking feedback.

Fun Fact: I enjoy nature, hiking and watching cartoons.

Mature and Postgraduate Officer - Badr Adnani

What I want to achieve: Represent the voice of Mature and Postgraduate students, improving academic support, increase opportunities for social and professional development and promote the NUS’ Mature Students’ Campaign and Postgraduate Students’ Campaign.

Fun Fact: I'm a globetrotter with a taste for adventure! I've had the incredible opportunity to explore a whopping 13 countries! From the charming streets of Europe to the exotic landscapes of Asia, each journey has left me with unforgettable memories and a deep appreciation for the diverse cultures and people around the world.

Mature and Postgraduate Officer Badr Adnani

Chair of Union Council - Vishwajit Bhoir

What I want to achieve: I would like to bring in new activities in Sunderland. I am glad to be a part of this institution and being a part of Union Council. I would like to bring in more resources for the libraries, social gatherings for all students, field trips, company visits, and online teaching.

Fun Fact: I am an extrovert and would like to bring some of this to the environment around me. I would like to introduce Indian culture and would like to ensure that many different cultures have cultural programmes at the University. My involvement in Union Council will not only impact our campus but also help in shaping our future generation of leaders and changemakers.
