Governance and Elections

Society Committee members are voted in through elections, with society members eligible to vote. This ensures every member of a society has a chance to lead and means that the process is fair, transparent and streamlined for everyone!

Societies who have set up from January 2024 will not be automatically set up for election and can appoint amongst themselves if they wish.

Students should contact yoursocieties@sunderland.ac.uk about any issues with the website, or candidate conduct.

Read the full guidance under the Resources tab on this page!

  • Your election will be set up for you on the SU website for the dates below.
  • All members of your society (signed up through your SU webpage) are eligible to run for a 2024/25 committee position if they will still be a student in 2024/25.
  • General guidance will be provided for promoting committee roles and the elections, but current society committees are responsible for the fair promotion of their specific role descriptions, if they have them.
  • Committee roles will stay the same, unless a role has remained vacant this year, in which case this will be removed. Each society should have a President and Treasurer role at minimum.
  • If a society has fewer than the minimum number of required members (4 excluding committee) it will be deactivated and will need to reregister in the new year.
