Being An Officer at Your SU - Run Campaigns

By Your SU

Want to know what being an Officer at Your SU involves? Between now and the end of Your Elections Nominations (18th Feb), we're speaking to some of our past officers on our website and socials about the steps involved in the journey if you are elected and what they learnt along the way.

Here, President: Education 20/21 Georgios Chnarakis shares what it was like to run campaigns - one of the main aspects of being an Officer - and the skills he developed as a result of being in office during the Covid pandemic.

Run Campaigns

During his time as an Officer, Georgios was instrumental in the process that led to the introduction of Studiosity - an academic writing support service, in addition to the University's study skills support services that were in place at the time.

Georgios also focused a campaign around supporting students during the pandemic. This included the introduction of a special academic regulation that gave students more flexibility and guidance on how to achieve the marks that they 'rightfully deserved'.

Georgios said: "In terms of the skills I developed, I think I became more resilient in my life, because I had to deal with a lot of issues, or a lot of challenges I would say, during my time, because it was the time when the pandemic hit. This also made me a bit more diplomatic in the way I deal with situations and how I respond to people. I also developed my communications skills, because I was speaking to lots of people from different backgrounds, different ages and different cultures."
